Al-Qaeda suspect arrested in Northern Ireland

A man is being questioned by detectives in Northern Ireland regarding alleged terrorist activity in the United Kingdom.

The man, suspected of having links to al-Qaeda, is being held at Gough Barracks in Armagh.

Following his arrest on Monday evening he was detained at Antrim serious crime centre before being transferred to Armagh.

He is reportedly being questioned about possessing material likely to be of use to terrorists.

On Tuesday, a judge at Craigavon court granted PSNI officers a further 72 hours to question the man, believed to be an Algerian national.

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed: “A man is being questioned about serious crime and of possessing information likely to be of use to terrorists.”
