Fellow pupil charged with Luke’s murder
Police have charged a 15-year-old boy with the murder of schoolboy Luke Walmsley.
Teenager Luke was fatally stabbed on Tuesday at Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, Lincolnshire.
He died from a single stab wound to the heart after an “altercation” in a school corridor during classes.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear before Skegness magistrates on Thursday.
He had been held at a local police station since Tuesday morning.
In an emotional statement, mother Jayne Walmsley said: “Yesterday we woke up with two children – but today we have only one.
“Our family has been ripped apart and will never be the same again.”
The Sun newspaper reports today that Luke was being “bullied” for protecting his 12-year old sister from the “attentions” of two older pupils.
On Wednesday morning over 50 students and family members attended a service at the Trinity Methodist Church where Luke was remembered.
The school is expected to open today for a “fellowship day” but lessons may not restart before next Monday.
David Hart, general secretary of the National Association of Headteachers said the tragedy would send “shockwaves” through the nation’s education system.
