Scottish MTV Awards watched by a billion worldwide
The MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Edinburgh last night and were watched by a worldwide audience of up to a billion people.
The celebrity-flooded ceremony took place at the Ocean Terminal Arena in Leith and featured performances by Missy Elliot, the Darkness, Beyonce Knowles, Kylie and Black Eyed Peas among others.
The night’s big winner was Justin Timberlake who scooped three awards for Best Pop Act, Best Male and also Best Album for Justified.
Other winners included Christina Aguilera who was Best Female and Beyonce Knowles who won Best R&B Act and Best Song. Coldplay took the Best Group award but were not there to collect it as singer Chris Martin was in London at the premiere of his girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow’s new film Sylvia.
Sean Paul won Best New Act; the White Stripes Best Rock Act; Panjabi MC Best Dance Act; and Sigur Ros Best Video for Untitled 1.
The award show was presented by actor Vin Diesel and Christina Aguilera. Ms Aguilera managed over a dozen costume changes throughout the night, some of which left little to the imagination. The singer joked: “This is my show and if anyone’s going to be getting the award for showing the most skin, it’s me.”
The show is being regarded as a major success for Scotland, which has shown it is perfectly at home hosting both independent festivals and glitzy international shows.
