“Fortress London” infiltrated
The Daily Mirror today claims to have exposed a major security breach at Buckingham Palace.
The Mirror said it had uncovered the “biggest royal security scandal ever.”
US President George W and First Lady Laura landed at Heathrow Airport at around 19:30GMT yesterday evening.
They were quickly flown to Buckingham Palace by the presidential helicopter, Marine One.
Ryan Parry, a reporter for the Daily Mirror, said he had worked at Buckingham Palace over the past two months, posing as a footman.
The reporter was due to serve breakfast to Mr Bush’s aides this morning, the tabloid said.
Mr Parry wrote in the paper: “Had I been a terrorist intent on assassinating the Queen or American president George Bush, I could have done so with absolute ease.
“Indeed, this morning I would have been serving breakfast to key members of his government, including National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice and US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
“Such is the shocking incompetence at the heart of the biggest security operation ever in Britain.”
Mr Parry said he used forged references to get the job.
Mr Bush’s visit comes as the UK is faced with an “unprecedented” risk of a terror attack from Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network.
On Monday, a female protester climbed to the top of Buckingham Palace’s front gate to protest against Mr Bush’s state visit to Britain.
61-year old Lindis Percy displayed a US flag bearing the words “Bush not welcome.”
