Push for “big conversation” gets underway
The Government today will launch the “big conversation” consultation exercise, asking the British electorate for their views on the most pressing contemporary issue facing Britain.
The move was announced at Labour’s annual party conference.
And in a party political broadcast on Wednesday, the same day as the Queen’s Speech, a thirteen-year old actress Jordan Palmer, asked TV viewers to proffer their views to “the man at the top.”
She said: “Don’t you want to tell the man at the top how we can make our future even better? I do.
“Well Mr Blair, what are you going to do to make our future better?”
Mr Blair replied: “Well, you can come and sit down and we’ll have a talk about it.”
Voters will be asked for their thoughts by letter or modern technologies such as email and text message.
A pamphlet will also be unveiled today called “Prospectus.”
Though Tony Blair’s health is in question, after he reported chest pains, a speech by the premier prepared for delivery in Newport, Wales today said Britain was changing for the better, with the economy strong, schools and hospitals improving, and crime falling.
“But I know we can do even better. Now there are important choices for the future. Choices, not just for politicians but for all of us.
“So we want to begin a conversation with you about how together we can make the future fair not just for some but for everyone,” he is expected to say.
