Queen to have knee op
Queen Elizabeth II is to have an operation on Friday to remove torn cartilage in her left knee, Buckingham Palace confirmed.
The Queen had a similar operation one on her right knee in January this year after she fell on uneven ground.
The 77-year old will have the surgery on Friday at the King Edward VII Hospital in London.
Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen is expected to leave hospital some time during the weekend and she should be fully active again within a few weeks.”
The Palace confirmed the Queen would spend Christmas with her family at Sandringham in Norfolk as planned.
Wednesday’s investiture at the palace, which sees England rugby union hero Jonny Wilkinson receive an MBE, will go ahead as planned despite the niggling pain.
The Queen has cancelled a carol concert on Thursday in London and the rededication ceremony of HMS Invincible on Friday in Portsmouth because of the problem.
The Queen’s commitments next week will also be postponed.
