Queen tested for cancer
The Queen is being tested for cancer as she recovers in hospital following her routine knee operation.
Her Majesty had “benign lesions” or growths removed from her face whilst receiving the 75-minute long scheduled knee operation, Buckingham Palace confirmed.
The lesions were tested for traces of malignancy, said plastic surgeon Dr Douglas Harrison.
The results will come through in a week, doctors confirmed.
Both the knee operation and the surgery on her face, carried out under general anaesthetic, were successful.
Two surgeons performed keyhole surgery to remove niggling cartilage from the Queen’s left knee.
The Queen is due to leave London’s King Edward VII Hospital over the weekend.
The Queen has cancelled or postponed current engagements but is expected to be fully active again in a few weeks.
She is expected to spend Christmas and the New Year with her family at Sandringham.
