Saddam captured
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been captured.
He was discovered by US military in a dirt hole near the northern Iraqi town of Tikrit on Saturday night. He was wearing a disguise and put up no resistance.
Speaking at a press conference this lunchtime, the US administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, announced his capture by saying: “we got him.” He showed footage of a heavily bearded Saddam being examined by doctors.
There are scenes of jubilation in Bagdhad, where people were openly celebrating and firing shots into the air.
