Diana “murdered”
Diana, Princess of Wales, believed her ex-husband Prince Charles wanted her killed in an “accident.”
Diana voiced her concerns in a note handed to butler Paul Burrell as an “insurance” policy.
Ten months after she wrote the note she was killed along with partner Dodi Al Fayed in a car crash in the Pont d’Alma tunnel in Paris in August 1997.
The note published by The Daily Mirror reads: “This particular phase of my life is the most dangerous – my husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry.”
Mr Burrell had published the note in a doctored form in his book A Royal Duty with “my husband” blanked out.
The story came as the inquiry got underway yesterday into the circumstances surrounding Prince Diana’s death. The inquest started yesterday at Wray Park, Reigate, Surrey, where Dodi lived and is buried.
But Royal coroner Michael Burgess adjourned the inquest into Diana’s death until next year due to the complexity of the case.
Sir John Stevens, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, is to lead the investigation into the car crash.
Mr Burgess confirmed yesterday he would be assessing Mr Burrell’s letter along with some 6,000 pages of evidence before the full hearing begins.
Mohammed Al Fayed insists his son and Diana were murdered.
He said: “It’s absolutely black and white horrendous murder.”
