Rusedski’s future in doubt
British tennis number two Greg Rusedski has vigorously denied any wrongdoing after he tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone.
The Canadian-born tennis star said he had tested positive to “a low concentration of nandrolone metabolites”, but claims the facts will prove his “total innocence”.
“There is a hearing to be held in Montreal on February 9th which I shall attend. I fully expect to be found innocent,” he said.
The test dates from July 23rd at the RCA Championships in Indianapolis.
Some scientists say the body produces minute amounts of nandrolene naturally. Several sports stars have previously denied wilfully taking drugs to boost performance despite testing positive.
In a statement, Rusedski said: “I wish to make it clear that I do not and never have taken performance-enhancing drugs.
“This is a very complex situation which once understood will clearly demonstrate my total innocence.
Rusedski is currently ranked 119th.
