Police foil ‘chemical attack’

Police in London may have foiled a terrorist attack involving a potentially deadly chemical agent.

Reports suggest that the security services swooped after the chemical osmium tetroxide was mentioned in GCHQ intercepts.

The agent is fatal if deployed in confined spaces, causing victims to choke to death.

While there has been no official statement, media reports indicate that a terrorist cell may have been planning to detonate a chemical bomb, possibly on the London Underground.

This latest alert comes less than a week after anti-terrorist officers seized half a tonne of ammonium nitrate in a series of raids throughout the South East.

It is thought that osmium tetroxide is available for purchase on the Internet.
