Saatchi predicts Labour general election defeat
The Conservative Party’s co-chairman has used his conference speech to claim that Labour is on track to lose the next general election.
Despite recent opinion polls which place the Conservatives behind Labour, in one poll by as much as seven points, Lord Saatchi used his party conference address to propose “Saatchi’s Law” of political predictions, that he said is the “political equivalent of the law of gravity. Unbreakable, at least on this planet.
Claiming that: “Satisfaction equals performance minus expectation”, he argued “this law states that Labour will lose the next general election.”
Labour, Lord Saatchi argued, had raised expectations but failed to deliver on its promises.
He argued that Labour has failed to deliver on social justice, claiming that “Labour presides over a mad world in which the poorest pay 63 per cent of their income in tax” and had failed to deliver great public services.
Lord Saatchi also attacked the party on what is seen to be one of their greatest electoral strengths – the economy. He claimed that a target setting culture has meant a dramatic increase in managers, rather than frontline personnel.
Overall, he categorised Labour’s record as “Expectation. High. Performance. Poor.Satisfaction. Low.”
By contrast, Lord Saatchi said that Michael Howard presents an “action story”, and is a man who will “make things happen.”
