Blears to promote SAFE Week
A new scheme to urge schoolchildren to be vigilant on British streets against the threat of robbery is being launched today by the Home Office.
Hazel Blears, Minister for Crime Reduction, Policing and Community Safety, will launch the scheme, in conjunction with charity, Crimestoppers.
The SAFE week runs from January 10th to 14th, and is being promoted by Olympic medal-winning boxer, Amir Khan.
He will accompany the MP for Salford to a special assembly at Burnage High School, Manchester, to urge children to stay safe.
The pair will then watch the National Youth Theatre (NYT) perform a drama especially prepared for the anti-robbery week project.
SAFE week is being held in January, the month that usually sees the highest incidence of street crime.
Crimestoppers has collaborated with teachers to develop an educational programme to mirror the national curriculum on citizenship at key stage three.
