Greens promise 200 candidates

The Green Party has said it expects to field 200 candidates in the upcoming general election – 25 per cent up on 2001.

In Scotland, the Scottish Greens expect to field 20 candidates.

Principal speaker Keith Taylor – who is hoping to become the first Green MP in Brighton – said that he believed the Greens’ time had come.

Mr Taylor, said: “After a four year interim characterised by war and an increasingly indistinguishable cross-party agenda of spin and non-stop privatisation, there has never been a greater need – or opportunity – for a Green voice in Westminster parliament.

“This year there is a real chance that, come May 5, the radical, honest and uncompromising work being done by Greens in Brussels and in local authorities all over the country, will being carried out in Westminster too.”
