Time magazine puts Brown ahead of Blair

Gordon Brown is more influential than Tony Blair, according to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Surprisingly, the Prime Minister failed to make the annual Time 100 list for the second year running.

Time’s profile of Mr Brown, written by Sir Bob Geldof, praised the Scot not for his helmsmanship of the British economy but for his efforts, alongside Mr Blair, to fight poverty in Africa.

Mr Brown has said 2005 will be a make or break year in the fight against global poverty.

“The pair’s efforts give hope to the continent and could even keep millions alive,” said Time magazine.

“Many find [Mr Brown] warm, with a sudden unexpected laugh and bone-dry wit. He is also patient: Brown seems ready to wait a while longer for the moment when many believe he will succeed Blair as prime minister.”
