Attlee’s grandson backs Tories

The grandson of Clement Attlee – often hailed as Labour’s greatest prime minister – has given his backing to the Conservatives.

Attlee led the Labour Party for over 20 years and headed the 1945 government that founded the NHS and nationalised key industries.

But his grandson, Earl Attlee, will today hit the campaign trail with the Conservative candidate for Eastleigh, Conor Burns.

John Attlee is expected to say that his grandfather believed in working together for the welfare of others and would be “horrified” at what Labour had become.
