Conference for Labour’s left
The left-wing Labour Representation Committee has marked the start of a new Labour government by calling a conference on how to end Blairite policies.
The LRC said today that it was “determined to bring to an end the Blairite policies that cost Labour so many seats in the election”.
It claims that its MPs survived the “New Labour-inspired slump” better than other Labour MPs, pointing to a lower average swing against them.
The conference, on July 16, will aim to work out a strategy both in Parliament and the trade unions for promoting a left agenda.
Group chair John McDonnell MP said: “The conference convened by the Labour Representation Committee will provide the forum for the Labour Left to determine the policies it will seek to promote, and the policies it will oppose in order to move on from the Blair era.”
