UK seeks French aid agreement
International Development Minister Gareth Thomas has urged the French government back the UK’s proposals on Africa.
As the other major ex-colonial African power, France retains strong links with a number of African countries and its support is key if UK plans are to pass the G8.
Today’s meeting comes as part of the UK’s diplomatic offensive ahead of next month’s G8 meeting.
Mr Thomas, said: “The UK is straining every sinew to get a strong outcome at the G8.”
He added: “With just weeks to go to Gleneagles we continue to lobby hard to win more allies. We are determined that the summit does not result in another set of broken promises.”
