Labour MP suffers stroke
Scottish Labour MP Rachel Squire has been taken to hospital after suffering a stroke.
The 50-year-old MP for Dunfermline and West Fife is currently in Edinburgh hospital after being admitted on Wednesday.
She has previously battled two brain tumours and is the patron of charity Brain Tumour Action.
A spokesperson for Ms Squire’s office confirmed: “Rachel has had a stroke. She is in hospital at the moment.”
It will be two to three weeks before doctors can tell how she has been affected by the stroke.
“We are waiting to see what is going on,” the spokesperson added.
Well-wishers included the Stroke Association, which said in a statement: ” We wish Ms Squire a good recovery, and our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.”
London-born Ms Squire is one of the few English MPs to represent a Scottish constituency.
She was elected to the new seat of Dunfermline and West Fife in May’s general election with a majority of 11,562.
She had been MP for Dunfermline West since 1992.
