RAF jobs go as HQ’s merge
One thousand jobs are set to be lost as part of the relocation of the RAF within a single command headquarters.
The Personnel & Training Command from RAF Innsworth, Gloucestershire, will relocate to RAF High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.
Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram said the move was vital to “create a flexible and adaptable RAF”.
“I recognise that this announcement will cause disappointment in the Innsworth area. We are doing everything possible to mitigate the impact on the staff concerned,” he added.
Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services union condemned the plans. He said: “The move not only runs contrary to the requirement for government departments to move work out of London and the South East under the Lyons review, but also makes a mockery of assurances given to a number of staff who have just recently been relocated to Innsworth.”
