Solstice strike threatened
Two of Britain’s most famous national monuments could be hit with strike action on the summer solstice – June 21.
Hadrian’s Wall and Stonehenge are set to be the scene for industrial action over pay and job cuts.
Workers at English Heritage are preparing to walk out, according to union Prospect.
It says staff have been forced to make a stand over an imposed pay settlement of 1.5 per cent and threatened job cuts.
English Heritage has insisted that no sites will be forced to close as a result of the action – pointing out that Stonehenge traditionally closes on the solstice anyway.
