Leaders to clash on special BBC Question Time
Party leaders Tony Blair, Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy will appear on a special live edition of the BBC’s Question Time later this month.
The news comes after Mr Blair confirmed Thursday, May 5 as the date for the next general election.
Question Time will run on BBC1 from 20: 30 BST and 2200 BST on April 28, a week before the vote.
But Mr Blair has declined a three-way debate with his opponents.
Instead, receiving cross-examination from the same studio audience, each leader will speak separately for around half an hour.
The BBC said the event was a first and a “coup” for the broadcaster.
Although someway off the ebb and flow of an US-style “head-to-head” debate, the BBC said it was the next best thing.
On Wednesday, party leaders face each other at PMQs on the final session of parliament and the first full day of the election campaign.
