Bombing suspect loses extradition appeal
One of the men suspected of being involved in the July 21st attacks on London has lost his appeal against extradition from Italy.
Hussain Osman’s lawyer last month lodged an appeal against an Italian court ruling approving his extradition to the UK.
But after a 30-minute hearing today, the Cassazione, Italy’s highest appeal court, upheld a previous ruling that the 27-year-old should be extradited.
“The request of the British government has been accepted,” Italian government lawyer Paolo Iorio said outside the court.
Mr Osman was arrested in Rome on July 29th, under the new European arrest warrant, for offences related to the failed bomb attacks.
However, Mr Osman’s extradition was held up as the Italian authorities debated whether he should face trial for other terrorist-related offences in Italy before being sent to the UK.
Mr Osman is suspected of attempting to detonate a bomb on the Shepherd’s Bush underground station.
