Tory wins top parliamentary award
Shadow attorney general Dominic Grieve has been named parliamentarian of the year by Spectator.
The right-wing magazine praised Mr Grieve for his “skilled and assiduous” performance in the House of Commons, and his constant attempts to hold ministers to account.
Other awards handed out included politician of the year, presented to David Cameron for his meteoric rise up the Tory ranks, and peer of the year, which went to Home Office minister Baroness Scotland of Asthal.
Spectator editor Boris Johnson said: “Yet again our judges have come up with an intriguing set of winners representing all shades of parliamentary opinion.”
The awards were judged by a panel of ten parliamentary correspondents and sketch writers from a number of leading newspapers and were presented by Lib Dem leader Charles Kennedy, last year’s politician of the year.
