Brown would ‘keep going’ after election defeat

Gordon Brown has refused to quit as Labour leader even if he loses the general election.
The prime minister told BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour programme that he would “keep going” if he failed to get an overall majority in the Commons “because I want a majority”.
“I owe it to people to continue and complete the work that we’ve started of taking this country out of the global, financial recession,” he said.
Mr Brown’s staying power has been tested to the limit during his three years in Downing Street.
Now it appears even if he is removed from No 10 he will not immediately give up the Labour party leadership without a fight.
Failed Tory leaders William Hague and Michael Howard preferred to avoid the question about what they would do if they lost the election, but Mr Brown tackled it head on.
“Will you resign if you don’t get a majority?” presenter Jane Garvey asked.
Mr Brown replied: “I’ll keep going.”
