Tories vow to control senior public sector pay

The salaries of senior figures in the public sector will be linked to those of their lowest paid workers, the Conservatives will announce today.
The proposal, which form a key part of the opposition’s plans to rein in public spending as it tries to increase confidence in its calculations, will appeal to those voters shocked by excessive pay at the upper levels of the public sector.
A ‘fair pay review’ will cap senior salaries at 20 times that of those at the lowest end of the scale.
In an interview with the Guardian, David Cameron said it was not enough for public bodies to publish details of pay for their staff.
Further proposals will be published about catching welfare cheats, with those committing benefit fraud threatened by a three-year suspension from their unemployment benefits.
Those who do not turn up to jobs or training will be stripped of support until they do.
