Protests against cuts went nationwide today, as the government prepared to announce unprecedented cutbacks to Britain’s public services.
Events are expected in Cardiff, Newcastle, Sheffield, Barnsley, Cambridge, Southampton, Bolton, Luton and London.
A march in Doncaster will be led by a coffin and hearse to symbolise the death of public services, while American preacher and presidential contender Jesse Jackson will take part in a Stop the War, union-backed march through London to parliament.
Public sector workers are rally to protest the comprehensive spending review, which will see government departments cut back by an average of 25%.
The TUC is understood to be planning a mass protest next year in central London.
The movement to challenge the cuts began yesterday with a polite and ordered demonstration in London which saw thousands of people try to cram in Westminster Central Hall for a rally featuring various union leaders, public service workers and celebrities.
Activists then lobbied parliament to speak with their MP.
