Family Action: George Osborne ‘not a family man’
Helen Dent, chief executive of Family Action, said in response to the Budget:
“George Osborne’s clearly not a family man. There was nothing in the chancellor’s Budget address to parliament for disadvantaged and vulnerable families. We need a fair family stabiliser not just a fair fuel stabiliser. A strong economy doesn’t just start with small business but with strong families who can stand on their feet and are work-ready because they get the right support from services and welfare. Weakening employee protections in the name of small businesses and cutting services and welfare is no way to support family life.
“With more than 2.5 million unemployed the chancellor’s silence in this Budget on how he will support the most vulnerable families and children is damning. There’s no help in this Budget for them and from April they will be hammered by 16 welfare cuts which we fear could break the vulnerable families we work with.”
