Miliband urges ‘verdict’ on coalition

Voters should use Thursday’s local elections to offer a “verdict” on the coalition government, Ed Miliband has said.

Speaking at a keynote event ahead of this week’s poll, the Labour leader encouraged Conservative and Liberal Democrat voters who felt they had not voted for the policies of the coalition to switch support to the main opposition party.

“These elections are the first chance to offer a verdict on what the Conservative-led government is doing to our country,” he said.

“There is an alternative to letting Nick Clegg and David Cameron get back to business as usual.

“I urge people who did not vote for these policies to show Nick Clegg and David Cameron what they think on Thursday.”

Mr Miliband said people felt “utterly betrayed” by the government and that the government had “no mandate” for the extent of the spending cuts they were forcing through.
