Yvette Cooper: Sara Payne phone-hacking developments ‘distressing’
Yvette Cooper, Labour's shadow home secretary, describes the "distressing" nature of new developments in phone-hacking scandal:
"This is another deeply distressing development. My heart goes out to Sara Payne, who showed immense bravery and fortitude during the most horrific moment any parent could possibly go through.
"If these allegations are right, then people across the country will be utterly appalled that Sara Payne was targeted at a time when she was already suffering a great deal.
"This is not only about an invasion of privacy. It's also about a violation of victims and their families at a time when they are most vulnerable.
"It is important that Operation Weeting, which is uncovering these serious allegations, gets to the very bottom of what went on, and brings people to justice."
