Political Week on Twitter: April 23rd to 27th
What a week for twitter! The Murdoch junior and senior at Leveson, Jeremy Hunt, and more recession – all against backdrop of torrential rain.
First up on the Leveson inquiry was James Murdoch, doing his best impression of a managerial robot with Alzheimer's:
If James Murdoch is correct in his evidence, then he made no marginal impact whatsoever in anything he did at News International. #Leveson

BREAKING: James Murdoch already has no recollection of appearing at #leveson later today

James Murdoch can't bear to say 'phone-hacking'. It's 'voicemail interception' in NI management-speak #leveson

All you really need to know about James Murdoch. Asked if he "read" Sun, he said he "tried to familiarise myself with its content". #Leveson

After James came a worryingly humble Rupert Murdoch:
Murdoch: "I failed" No Rupert, you succeeded. And then you got caught. #Leveson
— Steven Maclean (@Steven_Maclean) April 27, 2012
At one point Murdoch complained about being harassed by paparazzi, no doubt reminding Lord #Leveson of the famous case of Pot Vs Kettle.

#murdoch – "it's great for our democracy that there's 10 partisan mainly right-wing national papers in the UK owned by a few men". #Leveson

So when Murdoch meets politicians they don't discuss politics, or business. I suppose it's just pottery and snooker then

Jeremy Hunt got in a spot of bother when James Murdoch revealed that a spad of Hunt's had been emailing News International about the progress of the BSkyB deal. Against all expectations, Hunt still has a job:
Jeremy Hunt didn't have a clue what his employee was doing with a company Hunt rebukes for not knowing what their employees were doing.

We congratulate ourselves on how unlike Berlusconi's Italy UK is. Then we see the Hunt emails. bit.ly/JVPcIh

Dennis Skinner to Jeremy Hunt: 'Doesn't this prove the theory that when posh boys are in trouble, they sack the servant'

My summer reading. Insane conspiracy thriller about a corrosive relationship between Government & big business. bit.ly/I97mLM

Economics joke from Labour's Kevin Brennan: Hunt "used Adam Smith as his invisible hand." #ithankyou
— Robert Hutton (@RobDotHutton) April 25, 2012
The government's economic policy took a hit as it was announced that Britain is in a double-dip recession:
Am amazed most of today's front pages lead with Murdoch/Hunt rather than double dip recession, which affects everyone. Westminster bubble?
— Isabel Oakeshott (@IsabelOakeshott) April 26, 2012
Double dip recession, Jeremy Hunt is saved! Burn George Osborne!
— sunny hundal (@sunny_hundal) April 25, 2012
So we're in a double dip recession. To explain: that means we can't afford enough Kettle Chips to go with all the hummus.
