It’s all change for the hero of the phone-hacking scandal. Watson is now Labour's deputy chair, a position which could cause friction with his media committee responsibilities and the free-spirited approach he took to Twitter. Fortunately, he is still a witty, funny tweeter, and occasionally a useful one as well. Phone-hacking is not dominating the political agenda to the extent it was last time around, and his tweets on the subject are therefore less essential than they were a few months ago, but he is still a vital follow for anyone interested in the ongoing ramifications of the Milly Dowler scandal. Away from the war with Murdoch, Watson's success comes down to the fact he's charming and relatable. "So. It's 5pm," he wrote recently. "Tomorrow is a day off. The sun is shining. The Detroit Spinners are singing loudly. Beer, cold beer, is about to be drunk." It’s not exactly Shakespeare, but in the stifling world of MPs' tweets the simple humanity of his messages is a breath of fresh air.
