Stephen Kinnock questions Robert Jenrick’s ‘respect’ for new home secretary James Cleverly

At Home Office questions today, shadow immigration minister Stephen Kinnock questioned whether Robert Jenrick has any respect for his new boss, home secretary James Cleverly.

This afternoon was Cleverly’s first Home Office questions as the department lead, following the sacking of his predecessor Suella Braverman.

Kinnock said: “Does the immigration minister have any respect whatsoever for the authority of the new home secretary?”.

The immigration minister responded: “[We] heard absolutely nothing from the benches opposite about what they would actually do”.

He added: “They do not appreciate that the public that we’re sent here to represent want us demand that we reduce the levels of both legal and illegal migration. The home secretary and I will do absolutely everything in our power to achieve that”.
