Comment on latest Cornwall Insight price cap predictions

According to the Press Association, Cornwall Insight predicts the Ofgem Price Cap will mean that the average household will pay £2,063 per year for their gas and electricity from 1 July 2023, though this will vary based on how much energy they use.

The price cap will be changed again in October to bring the average bill to around £2,098, before hitting approximately £2,163 next January – according to reports.

Simon Francis, End Fuel Poverty Coalition coordinator, commented:

“The reality is that the latest figures mean that this coming winter an average household will pay double what they were in 2020 for their gas and electricity.

“Due to changes in Government support combined with these predicted prices, people will still be paying something similar for energy to what they did last winter.

“We must not allow this to become a new normal as millions will not be able to stay warm this winter based on current trends. The Government and Ofgem must act to mend Britain’s broken energy system.”
