Centre for London response to census education data

Responding to new ONS census data on education, Centre for London Research Manager Claire Harding said:

“It may be no surprise that growth in the proportion of people with a degree was higher in London than the rest of England – but London also saw a slower decrease in the percentage of people with no qualification.

This matters because Londoners with no or low qualifications don’t earn any more than people in other parts of England with low or no qualifications, but they face much higher living costs.

It’s never been more important for government to focus on adult learning.

Elsewhere, London remains a graduate city. In 14 London boroughs, the majority of adults have a degree – up from 6 boroughs in 2011. In Waltham Forest, the percentage of adults with a degree increased by 13.2 percentage points – more than twice the increase for England as a whole.”
