Centre for London response to ONS inflation data, November 2022
Responding to the latest inflation statistics, Claire Harding, Research Director, Centre for London said:
“Inflation in the UK remains high, and consumers are facing uncertainty about how far their money will go in the coming months.
While there are some signs of calming markets, we are still in for an extended period of economic turmoil, with the Bank of England predicting the longest recession in the UK since records began.
All of this is adding up to a bleak picture for London’s most vulnerable families, which could be made even worse by the expected announcement of austerity measures in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement tomorrow. It is crucial for the government to step in and provide the safety net the hardest hit Londoners will need in order to make it through the challenges ahead without falling through the cracks.”
