Suella Braverman has been eliminated from the Conservative leadership contest after the second round of votes.
She received the fewest amount of votes in the round as the favourites Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt consolidated their positions at the top.
Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 committee announced the results. Here are all 6 of the candidates, and the number of votes they received:
Badenoch 49
Braverman 27
Mordaunt 83
Sunak 101
Truss 64
Tugendhat 32
Braverman’s vote decreased from 32 to 27 since yesterday’s vote. Tom Tugendhat lost votes too, which sparked questions as to whether he should withdraw from the contest.
However, Tugendhat took to Twitter and confirmed this was not the case, saying:
“The campaign for #ACleanStart continues. Thank you to all my friends and colleagues who have pledged their support. We need trust back in our politics. I will be putting my vision for Britain forward to the public at the TV debates next week.”
Braverman who is known to be on the right of the party, is yet to publicly endorse another candidate.
Jeremy Hunt and Nadhim Zahawi were eliminated yesterday having not gained the needed 30 votes. But from this round, the requirements say that the candidate with the least votes will be eliminated, irrespective of how many votes they get until there are just two remaining.
356 of 358 MPs took part in the vote.
